About this event

MIM 131: 8th June - Building Alternative Music Careers with Julie Weir\\n\\nWhat to Expect\\nMusic Industry Mondays (MIM) is a free weekly event series held every Monday, bringing artists, creatives, and industry professionals together with guest speakers from across the music industry. Each session explores a different area of the business - from artists and managers to labels, festivals, publishing, marketing, and beyond. Expect honest insight, practical advice, and real-world experience, followed by an open mic and open Q&A.\\n\\n\\n\\nMeet This Week’s Guest\\nJulie Weir is Label Director at Sony Music UK’s legendary Music For Nations and one of the UK’s most respected figures in rock and alternative music.\\n\\nWith a career spanning more than 30 years, Julie began in a Leeds record store before moving into club promotion, merchandising, label management, artist development, publishing, sync and management. In 1998, she founded influential independent rock label Visible Noise, where she signed and developed groundbreaking artists including Bring Me the Horizon and Bullet for My Valentine, helping shape the future of British heavy music.\\n\\nAlongside running Visible Noise, Julie launched the UK’s first all-ages rock and metal club night, Subverse, managed artists through Wiseblood Management, and worked across branding, publishing and sync. In 2016, after years of consulting with Sony Music, she joined the company to relaunch Music For Nations, where she now works with artists including Evanescence, Tool, Hot Milk, and Porcupine Tree.\\n\\nJulie is also a passionate mentor for emerging artists and aspiring music professionals, and co-founded rEvolutionS, a support network championing women and non-binary people in the music industry.\\n\\n\\n\\nPrevious Speakers & Industry Partners\\nMusic Industry Mondays has welcomed leading organisations, companies, and creatives from across the global music industry, including:\\n\\nRoundhouse, Universal Music, Live Nation, The Great Escape, House Gospel Choir, Attention Management, 7digital, SyncVault, GUAP, Bryde, ROOKES, FUGA, Emily Phillips, PPL, Mahogany Sessions, Sony Music Publishing, Sentric Music, Tracklib, Phoenix Music International, Driift, Utopia, Ivors Academy, Youth Music and PRS Foundation to name a few.
